I love water. As such my 20 month old son spends a lot of time near water which is scary at times because at 20 months he is not a proficient swimmer yet. As a lifelong waterman and former lifeguard drowning is always a concern for me especially when kids are near the water. Drowning is the number one cause of injury related death in children under 5 in the U.S. Children ages 1-4 are at the greatest risk and 1 in every 5 drownings is a child under the age of 14. Most drownings, especially child drownings, are preventable with 65% of child drownings in California happening in backyard pools and the bulk of those with adults present. One of the reasons is that everyone thinks everyone else is watching.

The scenario is commonplace, you are having a backyard barbeque and there are children present around or in the pool. There are so many adults around everyone thinks everyone is watching the children but no one person actually is and that opens the door for tragedy. I am committed to the health of our community and the safety of our children which is why I am providing a FREE Greenway Properties Water Watcher Tag to anyone who wants one.

Water Watcher TagsOur Water Watcher Tags are bright yellow and on a lanyard so they can be worn. The concept is simple. If you are wearing the water watcher tag it is your responsibility to be watching the kids in or near the pool for the next 15 minutes.┬áThat’s a┬ásmall commitment out of any one social event to keep the kids safe. When your shift is up, you pass the tag on to another adult and you can head over and grab another hot dog off the grill and get back to chatting. This way there is always at least one adult whose sole attention is focused on the pool at all times but no one person is burdened throughout the event. The tags have instructions to call 911 in the case of an emergency. In the event that CPR is needed the 911 operator can walk you through how to perform CPR even if no one present is trained.

If you or someone you know has a backyard pool or spends time at the lake, river or on a boat in the summer please fill out the form below and we will send out your Free Water Watcher tag immediately.

It is our sincere hope that these tags help save lives in our community this summer.

From our family to yours, happy and safe swimming!
