King Fire Update

September 18, 2014

in Community News

Here is this mornings update from the king Fire Facebook page:

This morning’s briefing and stats for the King Fire were tough to hear. Since yesterday the fire has burned over ten miles to the northeast, almost to Hell Hole Reservoir, and is now in Placer County. As of this morning (Thursday) the King Fire is almost 71,000 acres. The containment remains at 5%. About 3,700 fire personnel are working on this fire, including a very large contingent of aircraft and fire equipment (more on that in another post).

The good/better/best news is that the southern part of fire, along with most of the southwest and southeast, are in good shape. Tomorrow’s map is expected to show black containment lines. This area is where most of the threatened structures are.

Other good news includes no new additional injuries (two injuries were previously reported). AND no structures have been reported as destroyed. That’s amazing considering how fast and furious the fire moved and how many firefighters are on the line.

We’ll post the maps and official update very soon.
